Types of Molded Fiber

From heavy-duty industrial protection to smooth, retail-ready finishes, we offer the full range of molded fiber to fit your product.

Type 1 — Simple & Sturdy

Type 1 is the original molded fiber process: pulp is formed in a single mold and then dried, producing a thick-walled, durable part with one smooth surface. Its rugged build makes it ideal for industrial and appliance packaging, as well as flowerpots and plant containers where strength matters more than finish.

Type 2 — Strong & Versatile

Type 2 adds a transfer step that reshapes the part before drying, creating a thinner, more refined product with one smooth side and one textured. It's the workhorse of everyday molded fiber — the process behind familiar items like egg cartons and four-cup coffee carriers.

Type 3 — Sleek & Sophisticated

Type 3, also known as precision or encapsulated drying, uses heated, high-pressure molds to deliver a smooth, detailed finish that closely resembles thermoformed plastic. The result is thin yet strong walls with fine surface detail — perfect for high-end retail packaging like cosmetics, electronics, and premium consumer goods, while remaining fully recyclable.
